Double Tree By Hilton, Docklands

Client: Shiva Ltd

Background: TSL's orginal attendance was to reinstall a fallen cladding panel, from this it became evident that the system was beyond its serviceable life and required repalcement.

Scope Of Service: Full design & replacement of the façade, all planning & structural scope undertaken, Inclusive of Building Control & Architectural responsibilities

Form Of Contract: JCT Design & Build

We completed this project during lockdown 1.0 and we thoroughly enjoyed what is typically a complicated project due to the curved nature of the existing substrate and subsequent panels.

The curved nature of the building requires a pinpoint accurate design & procurement period to ensure the panels are created millimeter perfect to achieve the desired outcome.

To aid our design process and ensure we captured the correct curve of the building, we commissioned a laser survey to map the contours and cross reference the data we already had.

Another constraint faced with this project was a the close proximity to the TFL’s DLR line. This is located on a bridge that run’s alongside the front of the hotel and directly adjacent to the north section of the works. To accommodate this we had to submit a detailed plan of works with a restricted boom on the machine to mitigate any fall risk on the line.

As noted above, we carried out these works in unusual times and were in some sense fortunate to only deal with a partially occupied building of healthcare professionals who were unable to go home due to risk of infection to their families and as such received no noise complaints as we adapted our working procedure to suit all stakeholders.

We delivered on time, in budget and have a happy client whom has asked us to carry out similar projects on other building within the greater London area in 2021.

We were invited to participate in this project at a very early preconstruction stage, this enabled us to work closely with the client’s design team to ensure the developing proposal suited the client’s requirements as well as met all standard compliance criteria. TSL’s industry known ability to work with minimal disruption was heavily leaned on […]

The client brief consisted of an entire facial uplift to the main entrance & external facade of the hotel, to be completed alongside the internal refurbishment of this wing of the building. An important part of this scheme was being involved with the clients design team from the start, this enabled us to work with […]
