Our Angel Lane project in London hosted two student visits this week, to see the practical applications of their learning.
The Construction Management BSc students from the nearby Global School of Banking campus were given an introduction to TSL and our niche within the building envelope sector, before the site team gave them an informative presentation on cladding refurbishment and the project details.
Armed with that knowledge, they then had a tour of the compound so they could see how we look after the workforce, how we store and call off materials and actually touch the product samples – nothing beats getting your hands on the real thing!
This was followed by a look at the logistics set up on site, to understand the project phasing and transfer of materials around the 14 storeys, including waste transfer. We also went through how we manage a live site to accommodate the hundreds of students who call it home, including noise and dust mitigation.
GBS Careers Consultant, Deborah Rock, commented, “It was incredible to see the theories that our students study in class come to life in real-world applications. From observing safety protocols to understanding the sequence of structural works. They had a tremendous appreciation for the complexity and collaboration behind this construction project, and they had lots of questions from the outset. We all gained valuable insights, were grateful for the opportunity, and most certainly inspired to keep learning!”
We look forward to this being the first step in an exciting relationship with GBS, which has ten campuses across the UK, as we help nurture the talent our industry so desperately needs.
