Major Projects

BACKGROUND

TSL was approached to tackle the intricate challenges posed by the deteriorating roof of the prestigious Emirates Arsenal Stadium. Conditions required specialised attention to detail and an approach beyond standard construction protocols.

SCOPE OF SERVICE

The initial scope was for a6 roof repair, focusing on the replacement of the polycarbonate sheets and the application of a waterproof coating. The scope quickly expanded to include:

  • Installation of a Triflex ProTect liquid applied waterproofing system.
  • Installation of new walkways with a Triflex walkway system.

AWARD WINNING

Following the successful completion of such a unique, highly challenging and technical project, TSL was awarded ‘Highly Commended’ at the LRWA awards gala and is currently a finalist for the NFRC roofing awards.

Resilience In Timing

The stadium was a unique project as not only was it a live site, but fixtures and events had to be accommodated throughout the programme. With shifts in weather conditions to contend with, our team re-sequenced work to adapt, adding an increased workforce, and additional safety nets to expedite the project timeline. Despite unexpected events impacting the programme, our resource management ensured the project was still delivered on time and within budget. The agile approach taken by the team ensured that we stayed on course, keeping both safety and quality at the forefront.

Meeting Exceptional Demands

Working in a live stadium environment posed unique challenges. With 26 fixtures accounted for in our work schedule, a complete roof handover was required before each event. Post-event, the site was returned to TSL to continue construction. Sports stadiums have point loadings around the roof areas which require larger labour teams. The UK’s first hybrid crane was used for material and rubbish removal, accommodating the pedestrian access surrounding the stadium. It was a challenge to accommodate unpredictable weather conditions, but this was seamlessly completed.

More Than Just A Roof

The stadium was completed and handed over to the client ahead of the new football season.
