Our intrepid explorers take on the Three Peaks Challenge!

September 2023

The toughest of the TSL team took on the Three Peaks Challenge to fundraise for our two charity partners: Nerve Tumours UK and Abby’s Heroes.

The team started in Scotland, taking on all 1,345m of Ben Nevis at 5am before heading to hike 978m of Scafell Pike and then 1085m of Snowdon. It was a total of 23 miles to hike, and the challenge was to complete all three mountains plus the travelling within 24 hours.

Team Captain Connor Hounsell said: “It was definitely a trip to remember. Our knees ached and we were shattered, but we did it, and saw some incredible views. We survived some curve balls too, a few injuries, a wrong turn, and a couple of smashed wing mirrors on the minibus, but we made some amazing memories, and all to raise money for two fantastic charities.

We chose Nerve Tumours UK and Abby’s Heroes as our 2023 charity partners following the support they have given to our Technical Director Dan Jarnak. Dan’s two-year-old daughter, Evie, was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis in 2022, and both charities have been an incredible support to the Jarnak family following her diagnosis.

Nerve Tumours UK provides a Specialist Nurse, Tracey Keynon, who will support Evie on her NF journey for the foreseeable future. TSL’s fundraising is localised, meaning that our funding will go directly to the Hampshire, IOW, and Dorset region, meaning that it will directly benefit the support that Evie received.

Abby’s Heroes welcomed the Jarnak family at Evie’s first chemotherapy session with a welfare hamper to keep them all fed and watered, and a play therapist to ensure Evie’s first experience of the ward was a

positive one. They provide support to patients and their families of the Piam Brown ward at Southampton General Hospital. Evie will complete a 70-week course of chemotherapy to stunt the tumours affecting her optic nerves. The chemotherapy is designed to preserve her current eyesight levels and prevent further deterioration.
