Aston Student Village

Major Projects

Background

After the client evaluated its property and highlighted several potential issues at  Aston Student Village, TSL was called to conduct further investigation on the external façade, we worked with the client and their design team to investigate and further develop a design proposal to accommodate this requirement.

Scope Of Service

Facade Refurbishment Project Consisting of Aluminium A1 Rainscreen Panels, Terracota Tiles & Equitone Cladding

Location Birmingham

The James Watt and William Murdoch buildings were a fire remediation project where we acted in the form of a Principal Contractor to undertake the full replacement of the façade, including remediation to the existing structure and full design. Working in conjunction with a team of consultants we carried out the full replacement successfully and in line with employee requirements.

During construction, we removed the existing HPL, Aluminium & Terracota tile systems that did not conform to the latest standards, replacing them with a newly designed system that upgraded the building to ensure conformity and certification to an EWS1 standard.

One challenge faced due to the global pandemic of Covid-19 as our logistics for laydown and material storage was taken to facilitate a Covid-19 testing centre, which meant TSL had to adapt the logistics strategy, laydown areas and programme of the works to enable this change to the project, which all were achieved successfully after some careful planning and help from the client.
